Fun Facts
Fun facts - anything interesting, fun, or just worth mentioning that comes across my way here in Stockholm
- Supermarkets in Sweden are just the same as everywhere else (Lidl for
example even has the very same products), except that here they have a whole
wall just for crispbread (Knäckebrot)!
- Everywhere you go, if it’s the tram/bus, a park, a supermarket or whatever,
people are walking around with their smartphones, either in their hand, holding them to their ear or talking via headset!! Seriously, it’s worse than in
Germany! In a bus more than 50% of the people are having their phone in their
hands! And those who don’t are either listening to music (so using their phone
anyways) or really old people xD
- Meeting all those other exchange students reminds me of traveling and living
in hostels – the first thing you ask is always “Where are you from?”, then “How
long are you staying?” and then things like what they study, name or
whatever.
- When there is a ticket inspection in the underground tram there are 5 people
walking though the train!
- Swedish clouds are just awesome! They look really cool and change so
quickly! I’ll post some pictures soon.
- The weather here changes as quickly as it does not even in Wisconsin! From one Minute to the next it goes from bright sunshine and blue sky to pouring rain that soakes you within a few seconds!
- Most people pay with cards here. Even the smallest thing like some chewing gum or whatever!
- I see more DHL and DB-Schenker trucks here than in Germany!
- Traffic lights are generally ignored by pedestrians. The just walk when the cars are far enough away. And that is okay, because everyone knows it and it is not illegal, as long as nobody is endagered. And at crosswalks (Zebrastreifen) the cars (and even the bikes) aktually stop! I hope I won't get into an accident once I'm back in Germany because I expect them to do so...
- The butter (or anything alike) here is generally saltet. And the unsaltet butter is more expensive than the one that is saltet.
- Swedish people seem to like food out of tubes. They don't have just the normal stuff like ketchup in tubes, but also kaviar, meat, cheese or others...
- Swedish people speak almost perfekt english. Just the J-sound, as in "just" they cannot say. They use the german sound of the j as in "Juni". (well, of course not all of them, but most)
- You cannot get alcohol in a normal supermarket here. Well, except for beer with up to 3,5% (and that tastes more like water with beer taste - but if you don't expect german beer it's not that bad...). Everything else has to be bought in a "systembolaget", a special store where they just sell alcohol. That way the government once tried to control the consumtion of alcohol.
